CLC weighs in on Bill 21

| OTTAWA – The Canadian Labour Congress has voiced “increasing concern” over the deterioration of the B.C. ambulance service and the lack of a settlement in the paramedics’ dispute. CLC president Ken Georgetti said the CLC, which represents more than three million Canadian workers, hopes the provincial government will come to its senses and voluntarily bargain a new collective agreement with CUPE 873.

BURNABY—B.C.’s ambulance paramedics received a lot of support from the labour movement during CUPE 873’s seven-month job action—but especially from the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union (BCGEU), whose members stood behind picket lines throughout the province. |

| CUPE launches Bill 21 letter campaign |
|
BURNABY – The CUPE national website has launched an online letter campaign in support of B.C.’s ambulance paramedics and against plans to use scabs as “volunteer paramedics” at the 2010 Games. CUPE members, family and friends are encouraged to send letters critical of the province legislating ambulance paramedics back to work and VANOC’s interference in free collective bargaining. |

| CUPE makes its presents known |

VANCOUVER - More than 100 CUPE members, ambulance paramedics and community activists were on hand last night to greet Premier Gordon Campbell at his annual Christmas party at the UBC Golf Club. Campbell had to run a gauntlet of protesters with Fight Bill 21 signs to enter the building. |
